About Flower Power Gardens

How did Flower Power Gardens come to be? It started in Chicago, when I decided to renovate the playground of my children’s newly formed school. With a few donations, lots of volunteers, and eventually a small grant, we completely transformed a very average city lot into a true wonderland, filled with flowers and birds and of course, lots of happy little children. That was my very first project and it won two Chicago Mayor Daley’s Landscape Awards. The National Gardening Association even published my design in their book, Schoolyard Mosaics.

Eventually enough people said I should go into business, that I finally listened. Flower Power Gardens was born.

The first few years I was dedicated to rejuvenating the postage stamp backyards, rooftop decks and containers of Lincoln Park, a place where every inch counts.

And, I continued to work on the school gardens of Chicago. Only then through the nonprofit group Openlands – planting one garden at a time, with a school full of children as my enthusiastic crew.

Sixteen years later, I am located in Valparaiso, Indiana, where the projects are bigger and the scenery broader. I am partnering with an outstanding group of people, known as ServiScape. An established firm along Lake Michigan's shoreline, ServiScape offers custom landscape design, professional installation, and maintenance, as well as irrigation services, and landscape lighting. I am happy to be part of such a hard-working team.

You may have encountered ServiScape's workmanship at one of the region's top golf courses, including The Warren Golf Course at Notre Dame, home of the 2019 U.S. Senior Open Championship.

My friends say I can be a real geek when it comes to plants and design. That’s probably true. Although in my mind, it’s simply passion for a job I love. I hope to share that passion with you!

Sincerely,
Ann Marischen
